Canadian Excise Reporting

Changes to Canadian Excise Reports in Brew Ninja

Our team has been working on improvements to the Canadian Excise Tax Reports offered in Brew Ninja.  Our new Canadian Beer Excise Tax Report will replace our existing Canadian Federal Excise Report.

The new report will be more detailed than the existing Canadian Federal Excise Report, giving you all the information you need to fill out the K50B Excise Duty Return - Brewer form.

We will also be rolling out two new reports:

  • Canadian Beer Excise Tax Report (Daily Rounded Production Volumes)

This report will show the daily rounded production volumes used to calculate taxes due. Daily production volumes are rounded down to the nearest hectoliter as outlined by the Canadian Revenue Agency.

  • Canadian Beer Excise Tax Report (Tax Calculations)

This report will show the how tax due was calculated.

Calculations are performed in accordance with Canadian Revenue Agency's excise duty rates, including reduced rates for the first 75,000 hectoliters packaged.

In order to use these reports effectively, you may need to make a few changes within your Brew Ninja account as follows.

Recipe Categorization

Only recipes in the 'beer' recipe category will be considered in these reports. Non-alcoholic products and recipes belonging to other categories will not be included.

To assign a recipe to the beer category head to 'Production: Recipes', open up your recipe and click 'edit'. Click the 'Category' dropdown box. Select the appropriate category and then click 'Save'.

Alcohol Percentages for Product SKUs

Alcohol percentages can be updated in bulk, you can edit alcohol percentages on all SKUs that have the same alcohol percentage at once.  Here's how:

  1. Head to 'Setup: Product SKUs'
  2. Click 'Bulk Change SKUs' in the top right corner.
  3. Select SKUs to edit.
  4. Fill out the 'Alcohol Percentage' box. Click 'Save'.

You only need to update alcohol percentages on packaged, dispensable and poured SKUs. Composite and combo SKUs will use the alcohol percentages assigned to their sub SKUs.

Fiscal Year Start Date

There is a new fiscal year start date field which will support this report. In order to use the new excise report you will need to set your fiscal year start date. You can do this through 'Setup: Company: Edit' in the 'Company Details' section, please make sure to save your changes.

To ensure that you have time to make the changes required to use these new excise reports, our existing excise tax reports will remain available until June 2025.
